If you’ve been on Pinterest or Instagram in the past six months, you probably have seen this new fad of “smoothie bowls”. It is how it sounds. Except you minus the blender and dive in to your inner Joanna Gaines, and fix’yerself up a bowl. At first I didn’t get it. Really. Why go to all the trouble to make a bowl of food look that good, just to demolish it in 5 seconds? Just plop the fruit in, and done. Well folks. I’m here to tell you that this little fad is on to something…
One morning I was a little bored with my regular routine in breakfast cuisine. (Ok. That totally just rhymed.) I wanted something fun. I wanted to feel good. I needed a creative outlet. An image of a smoothie bowl popped in my head. I can do that right? At least an easy version. I grabbed my Kefir drink from the fridge, banana’s, my homemade granola (that is still my favorite cereal ever), raspberries that needed to be ate, and my chia seeds. I started assembling. Granted, it isn’t the most intricate one ever, but I tell you what. By the time I was done, I wanted to EAT THAT. What would’ve been a pile of ‘eh’ in a bowl, turned into something I was proud of. And I’m pretty sure it tasted about 10 times better too. Presentation does something to you. It can turn drab whatnot’s into something inspired. It Freud’s with your mind.
Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes… -Lumière
- 1/2 c Kefir drink or yogurt
- 1 banana
- 1 handful of raspberries
- 1/4 cup granola
- 2 Tbsp chia seeds
- Pour Kefir drink or yogurt into chosen bowl. Slice up banana and place gently along one side of the bowl, having them sit slightly on top of each other, in a close fallen staggered domino effect. On the other side, place raspberries. Down the center, carefully pour in granola in a line. Sprinkle with chia seeds.
- Walnuts, or almonds would be a great addition to this dish. Feel free to mix up the fruit and mix in's! Have fun with it!
Go make art and eat it!
